The most frequently asked questions are about the stages of learning NLP. Where to start?
Although NLP Practitioner is an unregulated profession, it does have a progressive certification structure. It also requires the completion of the previous certification.
Please ensure that your training is delivered by a trainer who holds a credible certification.
Introduction
NLP introduction course can be as short as an evening or last several days. Introduction courses provide you with a way to find out if NLP is for you and whether you like the trainer`s style or not.
Diploma or Foundation
The first NLP practitioner certification is a diploma. This is usually a two to four-day course although this is dependent on the training company.
A foundation course should cover some of the basic methodologies of NLP. It includes emotional state management, an introduction to language patterns, creating and maintaining rapport, and other useful tools.
You may receive a certificate at the end of the course – evidence that you have demonstrated an understanding of the content and have an ability to maintain rapport with other participants.
Practitioner
The next NLP practitioner certification is a practitioner. There are a variety of different training formats available today and the most important principle to grasp is that one training course, however long or short, will not make you a skillful practitioner. Becoming proficient with NLP requires a practice of the right skills over time.
ANLP is particularly interested in promoting the importance of Continuous Professional Development and their levels of membership reflect that focus. To make sure you practice the right skills, it is important that your training thoroughly cover the basics that makeup NLP.
Master Practitioner
The next NLP practitioner certification is Master Practitioner, which does require certification at the Practitioner level. It generally builds on the Practitioner material in far more depth, especially modeling, language, and considerable new material. Students develop skills to change beliefs and values in themselves and others in a way that fits their lifestyle, family, and work systems.
Some Master Practitioner courses include modeling projects. These projects should focus on modeling real expertise and not mediocrity. Modeling mediocrity will only produce mediocrity and teach you nothing about the real power of modeling excellence.
Although these courses give you a basic understanding of the modeling process, you would be wise to take an advanced modeling course if you wish to specialize in this area.
Trainer
To deliver NLP Practitioner and Master Practitioner courses, the trainer should hold a certified NLP Trainers certificate themselves.
So, for those people who would like to be able to deliver NLP Practitioner training themselves, the next step is to take an NLP Trainers Training Course.
Trainers Training will equip you with the skills you need to be able to demonstrate NLP techniques and teach others to experience NLP. You will learn about course structure and presentation skills. To undertake Trainers Training, you do require certification at the Master Practitioner level.
Master Trainer
The last NLP practitioner certification is Master Trainer. Only a Master Trainer of NLP can deliver NLP Trainers Training and issue an NLP Trainer’s certificate.
There are only a few Master Trainers that work with all the other NLP certification institutions to compile a set of Master Trainer criteria to be an NLP Master Trainer.
Some certification bodies have their own criteria, in addition to these minimum criteria, for achieving Master Trainer status, and these criteria are also recognized by ANLP for Master Trainer status.
